Profile of Hujjatul Islam wal Muslimeen Maulana Shaikh Ismail Rajabi (r.a.)

He was a highly learned religious scholar, well-versed in Islamic jurisprudence and other vital subjects like beliefs, history, Tafseer, etc. He led the congregational prayers of Moghal Masjid in Bombay for almost 25 years and regularly explained religious laws from the pulpit for the followers of Ahle Bait (a.s.). Most of his time was spent in reading, writing, and research.

He had also established a publication organization by the name of ‘Idaarah-e-Nashr-e-Uloom-e-Aale Muhammad (a.s.) along with the aforementioned individuals, which published numerous books written by him.

Not the one to be allured by worldly attractions, the revered Shaikh Sahab (r.a.) was a dignified propagator, watchful in actions, careful in words, and pure in thoughts. He was an embodiment of all spiritual virtues that Islam stood for and hence, the very mention of Sayyedush Shuhadaa, Imam Husain (a.s.), had him sobbing uncontrollably.

He never ceased to think about the guidance and welfare of the Indian Shia community – especially the youth. He always reminded those around him that every Shia had a duty towards their Imam-e-Zamaan (a.t.f.s.) and that they would be intensely questioned about the Mastership of the Ahle Bait (a.s.) in the life hereafter.

He refrained the youth from indulging in vain pursuits like sports and films and instead, asked them to concentrate on the true divine sciences of the Ahle Bait (a.s.). He expired in the year 1987 and is buried in the Rehmatabad Graveyard of Mumbai.

May Allah the Almighty grant his soul an elevated status in the neighborhood of the Ahle Bait (a.s.)! Aameen!
